Twin Grammys for A.R.Rahman

01 Feb

A.R.Rahman has made us feel proud again by winning Grammy Awards at the 52 Annual Grammy Awards. For those who are unaware of Grammy Award, it’s the most prestigious award given to the achievements in Music. In short they are like Oscar Awards for Music. Like his twin Oscars, Rahman has won twin Grammys this time again for the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

1. The Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture

2. Shares with Lyricist Gulzar for the Best Song for a Motion Picture (Jai Ho!)

The other Grammy winners from India are Pt.Ravishankar (3 time winner), Ustad Zakir Hussain (1 time winner). Though A.R.R is not the first Indian (but the First Tamilian) to get the Grammy Award, he’s the first Indian to get Double Grammys.

Other Winners:   Pop singer Beyonce has been awarded the Best Femal Pop Vocal Performance. King of Pop Michael Jackson’s kids collected the award for Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of their late father. Unfortunately Ustad Zakir Hussain & Ustad Amjad Ali Khan who were also nominated didn’t win this year. They commented that they are happy for Rahman.

Unlike the Oscars, the Grammys are not so popular among many of us. Hope after this historic incident, we’ll start expecting our Mozart of Madras, Padmabhushan A.R. Rahman to win more Golden statuettes and Golden Gramaphones.

P.S:  Last year I celebrated Rahman’s Oscars by treating Ice creams to my friends. Have to treat my roomies tonight!  I changed my caller tune to Dreams on Fire soundtrack from Slumdog Millionaire in order express my ecstasy and wishes to Rahman. Jai Ho Rahman!! Hoping for his Oscars this year too.
