National Award Winners

11 Sep

55th National Awards for the year 2007 were announced on Monday. Gosh!!! Today only I came to know. Tooo bad Kaaru!!! This time South Indians and South Indian films bagged more awards mainly the leading Awards. Kudos to Prakash Raj (for his excellent performance in Kanchivaram), for winning the coveted award for the 3rd time after Iruvar (Best Supporting Actor); Dhaya (Special Jury Award). But now for the Best Actor category. Kannada Actress Umashree (Not Tara this time) gets the award for the Best Actress for Gulabi Talkies. Veteran Malayalam Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan gets the Best Director award for 7th Time. Kanchivaram gets the Best Film Award. It’s a surprise to see a Priyadarshan movie like this who’s more famous for his Comedies. Though the film didn’t hit the theatres, it was telecast in Vijay TV last month. Best Music Composer Award was also given to a Malayalam Music Director Ouseppachan for the movie “Orey Kadal

My Sweet Heart Shreya Ghoshal gets for the 3rd time after Devdas and Paheli. But personally, I dont like her getting the award for “Yeh Ishq…”. It would be more apt if she had got for Cheeni Kum songs esp Jaane Do naa… Shankar Mahadevan gets the Award for the 2nd time for the song “Maa..” in Taare Zameen Par after Kadukondain Kandukondain. Coincidentally, I got to watch the Youtube video of Shankar, singing the song along with his son Sidharth. He dedicated the song to his mother and told her son to dedicate to his mother (Mrs.Shankar). No wonder Prasoon Joshi got the Best Lyricist Award again for mind-blowing “Maa..”.

The Khan films too lead the race. Taare Zameen Par got the Best film on Family Welfare, while Chak De India got the Best film for wholesome Entertainment. SRK and Aamir were also contending for the award. The former was in the Best Actor category and the latter was in the  Best Director category. Surprisingly “Yeh Ishq…” from Jab We Met got two awards: for Best Female Play Back Singer and for the Best Choreography. Ironically, Guru’s Barso re megha.. got those two Filmfare awards for the same artists Shreya Ghoshal and Saroj Khan.

I was just shocked to know that Darsheel Safry was not awaded the Best Child Actor award for his outstanding performance in TZP. Shankar’s Shivaji won the award for Best Special Effects.  Sabu Cyril got it for the Best Art Direction in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om in which he created the exact Bollywood of 70s. Off beat film “Gandhi My Father” produced by Anil Kapoor is te only film to win 3 Awards. Darshan Zariwala (Remember Gandhiji of Lage Raho Munnabha??)  won for Best Supporting Actor, the director Feroze Abbas Khan won for the Best Screenplay and the Special Jury Award was shared by the director and the producer Anil Kapoor. Shefali Shah (I haven’t seen any of her movies) bagged the Best Supporting Actress Award for Ritupono Ghosh’s The Last Lear.

Kanchivaram… Really a film well deserved to get this honour… And ‘Meri maa’… such a touching song it is… It just melts our heart, how hard it may be…
