Highest Traffic

Posted in TV Shows on February 8, 2010 by Kaaru

Yayyyy my blog at last got the highest traffic yesterday with 446 views after 4 months. The last busiest day was on Sep 26th 2009 with 417 views. The most viewed post is till date is “Priyanka Beats Kamalhassan”, my blog about Priyanka’s 12 avatars in Waht’s Your Rashee? much before the movie’s release. The busiest day was the next day of the release. Now my post “MM4 Winners” has become the most viewed post since I posted a day before its telecast. It’s amazing that there are lot of fans for Maanada Mayilada. My recent post “Aayirathil oruvan Deleted Scenes” tried to become the most viewed post but it could make upto 278 views of my blog in a day. I thought it’s because Bollywood fans are more than Kollywood. But MM4 has incredible no of fans. Kudos to Kala Master!!! Am waiting for MM5.

P.S: But after the results are known it didn’t get much trafffic today.

Idhu Varai – Recent Addiction

Posted in Music, Music, Movies, Musings and More on February 7, 2010 by Kaaru

The song Idhu varai from Goa is my current favourite number. I liked the song when the audio was released. It developed an interest in me as it was crooned by Andrea and Ajeesh, the winner of Airtel Super Singer ‘09. I didnt like  Andrea’s voice since it lacks the nativity and awful Tamil pronunciation.  But after seeing the song in movie, I started loving it mainly for its situation and picturisation. Ajeesh was not my favourite when he was a participant in Airtel Super Singer as his voice sounded like Unnikrishnan. I liked Ravi’s voice and expected he would win the title. But it this song, Ajeesh has done a fabulous job. His rendition is excellent with a good feel. He sings high pitch at ease. Andrea’s way of singing suited to Pia’s character who’s a rock singer in the movie. I was surprised that Gangai Amaran has penned the lyrics. Such a nice one which is blended with the story with a flow. I esp love the 2nd stanza both to hear and to watch. Yuvan rocks!!!

Lyrics:

MM4- Winners

Posted in TV Shows on February 6, 2010 by Kaaru

Maanaada Mayilaada, my favourite dance reality show’s 4th Seasons winners were announced yesterday. Gokul-Neepa pair wins the title. My favourite couple from MM3 is the 1st Runner up and my favourite jodi of MM4 Lokesh-Shwetha is the 2nd runner up. My another favourite pair Rahman-Nikisha whom I expected would win the title wins the 4th Prize.

As an individual I just love Shwetha just for her effervescent energy, expressions, and Rahman for his extra-ordinary style and movements. Needless to say about Nivas and his chemistry with Krithika. Though Gokul is an amazingly talented performer, I don’t like him much. But Neepa is an epitome of grace with her beautiful eyes. Anyways, My hearty wishes to the winners.

P.S: I liked MM3 more than MM4. Unlike MM3, I didn’t watch MM4 regularly. Hope MM5 will have a group of known artists.

Thamizh Padam – Review

Posted in Movies on February 5, 2010 by Kaaru

Thamizh Padam – The first full and full spoof movie in Tamil. This is the only USP of the movie. Other than that nothing is there. I watched the film on Sunday at Mayajaal 8.15 pm show. 12 of us went to watch. Previous day, the same set of us went to the same place to watch Go.s.

Kudos to the producer to have guts to produce a movie without stars after his blockbuster movie Vaaranam Aayiram with a great ensemble of stars and technicians. Other than Nirav Shah, no one has a star standard. For me, the movie is like watching Super-10 and Lollu Sabha on big screen. We have seen much of spoofs in both of the programs zillion times. Moreover Vivek has contributed his part by making spoof in almost all movies of him. So many of the scenes are cliched and predictable.  Shiva has done his job very well. Still I couldn’t accept him as a solo hero. He was too good in his previous films, esp in Chennai-28.

The movie starts in a village where Baby boys are killed using cactus milk (Karuthamma). The Naattaamai spoof is inevitable in Village scenes.  The  baby says its granny to put it in a goods train (Thalapathy). Even a new born kid knows that every goods train from a village reaches Chennai. The granny brings up the boy whose wish is to become a mass hero. He has 3 friends Sidharth (Manobala), Bharath (Vennira Aadai Moorthy) & Nakul (Hema Bhaskar) who help him succeed in his love. Meantime he kills some rowdies like Anniyan Vikram, with Banana Skin and the terrible one is with his unwashed socks (Gosh!! So sick!!). Later  it’s revealed that he’s a Police Officer in disguise like Pokkiri Vijay to kill the underworld rowdies. He goes to his village to find his parents which is the most boring segment. he finds his parents by singing a family song. Finally, he finds the Boss of those underworld dons and gets promoted as DGP. The suspense of the Boss is sooooo mokkai

Some most likable scenes:

1.When Chennai Central is shown, a man says that Chennai has other landmarks also to be shown. That’s s a good one.

2. When Shiva was a boy, he asks his granny to become a big. She says to pedal the cycle. When he pedals the cycle, he grows in a couple of seconds.

3. Similarly, when the girl’s father rejects him saying his status in so low compared to his, he challenges to become rich. In a single song he becomes rich which is just 5 min and comes back to the girl’s dad.

4. The Mouna Ragam Library scene and Kadhalukku Mariyadhai book store scene (Both are so close to my heart)

5.  The song Omahaazeeya is the best of all spoof.

6. Ultimate one: Simbhu was kalachified the most. The Naattamai punishes the people by showing the film of the actor who uses his fingers for style.

Overall, the first half is okay but the second half is toooooo much boring. Goa was far better than this. Om Shanti Om is a better spoof film than this. I wish the director C.S.Amudhan to make some better spoofs or original films with good comedy.

Bottomline: A one time watch film with a group of friends so that anyone can remind the film which is imitated.

Goa – Review

Posted in Movies on February 2, 2010 by Kaaru

Venkat Prabhu has made a mark with his first two movies Chennai-600028 and Sa-Ro-Ja which helped to grab the attention for his 3rd movie Goa. His movies are mostly fall under Comedy genre with a good technical team, good music of Yuvan and some spoofs. Goa means B3- Beach, Babes & Booze. The title itself has a beer bottle and a wine glass in it. So innovative. As usual the songs helped create more expectation as it has singers like Maestro Ilayaraja, S.P.B, Chithra, S.P. Charan, Andrea, Ajeesh of Airtel Super Singer fame. The highlight song is sung by the offsprings of Ilayaraja family Karthik Raja, Yuvan, Bhavatharini, Venkat Prabhu, Premji Amaran singing about the fame of their fathers and native place “Pannaipuram” near Madurai.

Me and my roommates planned to watch in Sathyam Cinemas but no ticket was available even when the advance booking started from midnight 12 of 27th Jan. We couldn’t even get the tickets in INOX, Devi, Sangam where we can enjoy this kinda flick with mixed audience. The only choice left was Mayajaal. 12 of us went to the 22.50 show on 30th Jan.

Plot:

The film starts the Pannaipuram song with Titles followed by a cliched Panchayat scene with the same Vijayakumar as Naattaamai. Thank God Naattaamai theerppa maathi sollu kinda dialogues were not there. Vinayagam aka Vinay (Jai), Saamikannu (Premji Amaran) and Ramarajan(Vaibhav) are spoilt brats who want to leave from the village to spend a week in nearby city Madurai. They steal the God’s Jewels from the temple where Premji serves like Kovil Kaalai Vijayakanth (There’s a spoof flashback, his parents pray to Goddess Shakthi to bless them with a child and they would bring it up to serve the temple and the Goddess). They reach Madurai to meet Azhagar, Jai’s friend. They come to know that Azhagar is getting married and go to the wedding hall. To their surprise he marries a foreigner (Her name is Angelina Jolie). When the trio asks Azhagar (an ordinary, dark complexion guy) how he got the girl, he says he was a guide in Goa and got to meet and love Jolie who came as a tourist. He also says that he’s going to London and get settled. On hearing this, three of them decide to leave for Goa, to love and marry a foreign girl and to settle abroad. In Azhagarr’s wedding Premji meets a foreign girl, friend of Jolie and both of them fall in love at first sight with Kangal Irandaal background but Premji nodding his head like Jai. Phew!!! Enough spoof of that song!!!

Twin Grammys for A.R.Rahman

Posted in A.R.Rahman, Celebrations, Music on February 1, 2010 by Kaaru

A.R.Rahman has made us feel proud again by winning Grammy Awards at the 52 Annual Grammy Awards. For those who are unaware of Grammy Award, it’s the most prestigious award given to the achievements in Music. In short they are like Oscar Awards for Music. Like his twin Oscars, Rahman has won twin Grammys this time again for the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

1. The Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture

2. Shares with Lyricist Gulzar for the Best Song for a Motion Picture (Jai Ho!)

The other Grammy winners from India are Pt.Ravishankar (3 time winner), Ustad Zakir Hussain (1 time winner). Though A.R.R is not the first Indian (but the First Tamilian) to get the Grammy Award, he’s the first Indian to get Double Grammys.

Other Winners:   Pop singer Beyonce has been awarded the Best Femal Pop Vocal Performance. King of Pop Michael Jackson’s kids collected the award for Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of their late father. Unfortunately Ustad Zakir Hussain & Ustad Amjad Ali Khan who were also nominated didn’t win this year. They commented that they are happy for Rahman.

Unlike the Oscars, the Grammys are not so popular among many of us. Hope after this historic incident, we’ll start expecting our Mozart of Madras, Padmabhushan A.R. Rahman to win more Golden statuettes and Golden Gramaphones.

P.S:  Last year I celebrated Rahman’s Oscars by treating Ice creams to my friends. Have to treat my roomies tonight!  I changed my caller tune to Dreams on Fire soundtrack from Slumdog Millionaire in order express my ecstasy and wishes to Rahman. Jai Ho Rahman!! Hoping for his Oscars this year too.

Padma Bhushan Got Honoured

Posted in A.R.Rahman, Aamir Khan, Ilayaraja, Movies, Music, Musings and More, Music on January 28, 2010 by Kaaru

Indian Government has honoured our Mozart of Madras A.R.Rahman and the Ace Actor Aamir Khan by announcing this years Padma Bhushan Awards to them. But the honourary award itself got honoured when Maestro Ilayaraja was announced to get that. Awards should be given as recognition. In that case, Maestro should have been awarded 2 decades back. When A.R. Rahman is awarded Padma Bhushan, his Master should get more than that. Even Padma Vibhushan is less for the achievements he has made. He should be awarded Dada Saheb Palke and Bharata Ratna. This award may be a feather in his cap, but not a crown. It’s like Jayakanthan was awarded Gnan Pith years later he did wonders with his writings. Egoistic JK commented that Gnan Pith was an endorsement and not a recognition to him. Wish to see Isaignani with Bharata Ratna.

56th National Award Winners

Posted in Filmy Freak, Movies on January 24, 2010 by Kaaru

The winners of 56th National Awards were announced last night. The awards were given to the films that were released in 2008. Unlike last year, this year South Indian films has got very few awards but Director Bala has made us proud by winning one of the most prestigious awards- Best Director for his 4th Film Naan Kadavul. It also bags  another award for Best Makeup (for showing the beautiful Pooja as an unidentifiable beggar). Bengali film Antaheen is adjudged the Best Film of 2008. It stars Rahul Bose with Aparna Sen and Sharmila Tagore. It also gets other three awards for Best Cinematography, Best Lyrics and Best Playback singer-female. I’m soooo glad to know Shreya Ghoshal wins the coveted award for the fourth time in just 6 years. The specialty of this year is she gets the award for two songs. One in the Bengali film Anataheen and in the Marathi film Jogwa. These two movies have got the more number of awards and Shreya is a part in both for the same category. Shreya… U Rock Sweet Heart!!! Marathi film Jogwa bags five awards  including Upendra Limaye (Inspector Bhosle of Page 3 Fame) for the Best Actor.

Priyanka Chopra gets the Best Actress award for her stunning performance as Meghna Mathur in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion. I became her fan from that movie and recommended many of my friends to watch it but I didn’t expect she would get National Award. In general, National Awards are given to slow paced art films which get flopped at the BO. Most of them don’t get released in theatres. This time commercially hit movies are awarded. Kangna Ranaut gets for the Best Supporting Actress for Fashion. Rock On is adjudged the Best Movie in Hindi. Arjun Rampal gets the Best Supporting Actor for Rock On. (It’s a decent performance but I don’t think it deserves National Award). I expected A Wednesday would get the Best Film award or at least Best Hindi Film. But still it managed to get the Indira Gandhi award for the Best First Film of a Director. Oye Lucky Oye Oye wins for the Best Popular Film. Jodha Akbar bags two awards. Obviously one is for Best Costumes (Neeta Lulla) and the other for the Best Choreography for the song Azeem o Shahenshah (Chinni Prakash & Rekha Prakash). Unfortunately A.R.Rahman doesn’t get the award for Best Music. Composers Atul & Ajay get that for Jogwa. Nandita Das’ debut film Firaaq gets the awards for Best Editing (SreekarPrasad) and Best Art Direction (Gautam Sen).

The surprise is Vaaranam Aayiram has got the Best Film in Tamil. It’s a good film but not the Best of 2008. When Subramaniyapuram swept all the Filmfare Awards, it didn’t manage to get the National Award. Neither Naan Kadavul is given the Best Film. The thing that shocked me is Dasavatharam didnt get any award. Kamalhassan had put heart and soul to portray the 10 different characters and had woven a neat screenplay. He gets for none. The jury should have given him a Special Award for his achievements in his  50 year career. I’m so sad for that. Such moviesh should be recognized and encouraged. I strongly believed Kamal would get the Best Actor award this time. I’ve to see Jogwa what Upendra has done more than Kamalhassan. But he needs no more awards and recognitions except an Oscar.

Yet another Oscar for ARR?

Posted in A.R.Rahman, Music on January 23, 2010 by Kaaru

Hurray!! Glad news for all Indians and Music Lovers!!

A.R.Rahman’s song “Na na” from the Hollywood Movie Couple’s Retreat has been shortlisted for the 82nd Academy Award nomination in the Best Original Song Category. It will compete with 62 other songs that are nominated for the same category. Among them final list of songs will be announced as nominations. The song Na Na has been penned and sung by ARR himself along with our rapper Blaaze and Vivian Chiax. The specialty of the song is Rahman Junior A.R.Ameen has also sung in the song.

The Award Ceremony will take place on March 7th 2010 at California. I pray and wish that ARR would get his third Oscar on March 7th and make us proud once again.

P.S: It would be the most happiest thing if the Tamil song “Kuru kuru kangale” in Couple’s Retreat is shortlisted for the nominations.

Working Round the Clock

Posted in Memories n Memoirs, My Musings, Random Rantings on January 22, 2010 by Kaaru

Believe it or not. I was in my office for 23 long hours. I went to office at 1.30 pm yesterday. Since the past two days I used to work in nights (till 5-6 am), I go to office in the afternoons. Since the launching date of our product is nearing we get hella lotta work load. Yesterday all of us were asked to stay and work whole night. It was my third continuous day to work in wee hours. There was so much tasks to be completed that even my TL was sitting and working with us till 7 am. Most of the guys left after 7.30 am. But I get other tasks for today and completed them by 12.30 pm and then returned to my flat. I was also thinking to stay one more hour to complete 24 hours but my body didn’t co-operate as I didn’t have anything except 2 vadas and a cuppa coffee. I took an hour nap from 5 am to 6 am. After coming home I took bath and slept at 2 pm without taking lunch. Again by 4 pm I was called and given some tasks which I have completed just 70%. Today also I have to wake up till 2-3 am as our launching may be on 26th Jan (GOK).

I never worried to work more but the thing that irritates me is that most of the people think only those who are present in the office for long time work more. Even I don’t work all the time in office. But even from home I work and send the data by mail. But I’m forced to work particularly in the workplace. I don’t know when the people’s attitude will change. Also if a person is willing to work 24/7 (at the peak of the project), the seniors/managers take advantage out of it. We are taken for granted. Without any ethics, the employers get the work done in day and night thinking that we are all machines. Deliberately I didn’t go to office today but all my other colleagues attended. But I’m damn sure that I have given more output of work than anyone else who were in the so called workplace.
